A black belt has different meanings for each person. When I was a young boy, I thought that by holding a black belt, one needs to be invincible and make crazy moves like a ninja. The meaning of the black belt to me is now different. It means I have been persistent and overcame the adversities, It means I have had discipline to keep going no matter what, it means I have fought my doubts and fears, I have faced the pain.  The truth is, a few things make more and more sense to me: Karate is a way of life, we will be learning forever AND it is not about being the best. It is about being better than you were yesterday.
